Monday 20th July REHEARSAL in the Harp Centre from 6 to 9pm
Thursday 23rd July REHEARSAL in the Harp Centre from 6 to 9pm
Sunday 26th July WEDDING ENGAGEMENT FOR THE IYHO in Castleconnell from 1.15pm.
Arrangements: Please gather at the Harp Centre at 1pm in your black costumes and please would the car drivers hang on and bring us all in a convoy to the venue the other side of Castleconnell for 1.15 sharp. We will be playing at the venue from 1.45 and the wedding is at 2. We will be playing the wedding ceremony and for about a half hour afterwards. In the meantime, the parents are invited to return to the Harp Centre for tea and chat – and when Janet phones when we are finished at the wedding, please come back and collect us. The wedding is in the home of Pat Burke, my colleague helping with our Accreditation and it is her daughter Siobhan that is marrying. They are making a substantial donation to the Orchestra funds that will pay for a bus for our tour during the Orchestra Week in August – so, if you’re not abroad on holidays, please JOIN US! Please also let me know if you are not able to join us as I do understand that some people are away.
Saturday August 1st INVITATION TO A PARTY AT THE HARP CENTRE Dear members and parents of the Harp Orchestra, I am hitting a significant birthday and would love if you would come join the party (from 7pm)! (Please do not be concerned about presents, but bring something to eat or drink – or a plant for the garden, OK!).
Sunday 16th / Monday 17th - Saturday 22nd AUGUST HARP ORCHESTRA WEEK (BRIAN BORU FESTIVAL) AND MINI TOUR
This is the big week for the Orchestra in 2015 – not as big as last year’s Millennium year, but another in its footsteps. All members are expected to participate in another performance of (or exerpts from) the ‘Lion of Ireland’ – this time with just our own orchestra so all hands on deck!
REHEARSALS from 10am to 4 pm Monday – Thursday (Wed & Thurs rehearsals in Castleconnell Parish Hall). Please bring your existing Lion of Ireland harp scores and if you are bumped up a section, we can arrange exchanges to save you buying new scores…
CONCERT in a venue tbc on Friday August 21st
CONCERT in St.Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick August 22nd (with the Limerick Pipe Band and choirs) For this concert, we are asking (please!) that all orchestra parents help to sell tickets and to help with the running of the concert – on the door, selling the DVD (yes, we are launching our DVD!), stage management, video-ing etc. Also during this week, orchestra members are invited to ‘camp’ at the Harp Centre at the cost of €100 per member (this to cover food and cleaning!!). The bunk room is returning to the bunk room – so expect some big changes (and a lot of fun) at the Harp Centre this Summer!
Gigs for the Harp Orchestra senior members: There are exciting dates for the orchestra seniors coming up – including the Belfast Tattoo (a week in Belfast at the beginning of September) and a weekend in Belgium in February at the ‘Harpe En Avenois Festival’ (4 harpers only). I will be in touch with the orchestra seniors for rehearsals and arrangements…..
Possible weekend in Belfast for the BBC Proms: awaiting confirmation Possible weekend in Killarney: The Harp Orchestra has been invited for the Muckross House Harp Trail on Saturday September 26th involving an overnight stay in a hostel (parents/drivers included). Also awaiting confirmation …
